How to Install Large or Heavy Mirrors Safely

February 4, 2025adminCustom MirrorsNo Comments

Have you recently purchased a large or heavy mirror? Whether you want to make your space larger or add more light to a room, hanging your new mirror will take your space to the next level! However, with such stellar design capabilities comes the installation of the product. Mirrors can be heavy, large, or of odd shape, so you must have the tools and resources to install and hang your mirror safely. To help you do so, the industry experts at Merrimack Valley Glass & Mirror have compiled our top tips and guides to ensure safe practice.

The Guide To Installing A Mirror In Your Home

Examine The Wall

When beginning to install your mirror, you will need to examine the wall you would like to place it on. During this time, you will need to note what your wall is made of, such as brick, stone, drywall, or plaster. Doing this will help you determine the necessary products to hang.

Gather The Correct Hardware

Once you have determined the wall type, you will want to look at the back of the mirror to see what hardware is attached. If it appears to be old, worn, or rusty, consider acquiring new hardware to ensure it is safe. During this time, you will also want to assess how heavy your mirror is, as you may need more hardware to keep it firmly secured to the wall.

Measure & Draw A Line

Next, you will want to examine where you want your mirror to be placed. Using a tape measure or other measuring device, you will want to see what works best for your space and draw a line. Using a level, you will want to align your line with the center point, marking where your hardware will be placed. If needed, this is the type to secure hardware, screws, etc.

Hang The Mirror

Once measured and the hardware is secured, you will want to ask a friend or family member for assistance in hanging the wall. Ensure it is locked into the hardware and secured firmly in place.
