Should You Repair Or Replace Your Windows

August 30, 2019adminWindows & DoorsNo Comments

If you have issues with your windows in your home or commercial property you may be considering what to do. Generally, window repair is less expensive, but if it doesn’t solve the issue it is a waste of money. Window replacement can be expensive, and if you try to do it yourself and don’t install the windows correctly you can cause worse problems including less energy efficiency for your property. Depending on the damage to your window, your budget, and your goals, you can decide whether you need window repair or window installation.

When Do You Need To Repair Your Window

If you are noticing drafts or there are water leaks, you may not need to replace your window. Most likely drafts are caused by the area around your window and this can be replaced using window seals. This DIY trick is a simple way to deal with air leaks and water leaks around your window. If water continues to leak through, consider talking with a window installation company that can help. If you are dealing with unwanted insects and you have determined they are coming into your building through window cracks one cost-effective solution is to install or repair an existing window screen. However, window screens do not stop all insects and may not be a permanent solution if you windows no longer are flush with your home’s exterior. If your window is not sliding properly or getting jammed it can most likely be repaired. Because the window itself is still intact, it will not need to be replaced.

When Should You Replace Windows

Generally speaking, you will want to replace windows in any circumstance where repairing windows will not meaningfully deal with your problems longterm. If the glass is cracked or broken you will want to replace your window. If the cracks are minor enough you may be able to do some repairs assuming the window is a single pane. But for multi-paned windows, cracked glass is almost always a cause for window replacement. Many homeowners also spring for window replacement to improve their homes. If you have single-pane windows that are not energy efficient, new windows can provide a plethora of benefits. From lowering noise pollution to decreasing your heating/ac bill year-round, switching out your windows can improve your home.
